We were founded in 1739. Named for Sir John Tyrrell. We have a total of 594 square miles of land and water.
We are a natural paradise, surrounded by the Scuppernong River, Albemarle Sound and Alligator River. Pocosin Lakes Natural Wildlife Refuge is located in our beautiful community.
We are home to around 4100 residents. We have many diverse communities in Tyrrell, including Alligator, Kilkenny, Gum Neck, Frying Pan, Scuppernong, South Fork, Travis, Sound Side, the Creeks and Columbia.
